Hitched Weddings & Events is proud to be working on a new fundraiser:

A Hope for Autism.

April is National Autism Awareness Month

A Hope for Autism Foundation is hosting a black tie charity dinner, fashion show and silent auction event at the Benson Hotel on Saturday, April 10, 2010  at 6:30pm with a private performance by musical guest Journey.  I would like to ask you to support our foundation’s “kick-off” event and help make a difference in the lives of many families and children with Autism.

Founded in 2009 by Gayle Woodruff-mom and Robbin Sobatka-Soles-BCBA, A Hope for Autism is Oregon’s first non-profit program for children with autism. As a mom of two, Gayle became introduced to autism in 2003 when her son Miles was born.  Out of desperation to find out how to care for her son, Gayle flew around the country from one specialist to another until she assembled the best team possible. Today, Gayle lives in Lake Oswego with her kids and wants to share all of her knowledge with other families struggling with the daily challenges of Autism.
“Oregon has one of the highest rates of Autism in the United States*, and the Spectrum Disorder is the world’s fastest growing developmental disability. Each child with ASD varies in their ability to learn, communicate and relate to others. A Hope for Autism provides consultation for families setting up custom home programs, family support, training, supervision and in-home treatment.  All proceeds from our event go directly to A Hope For Autism Foundation, a Portland based nonprofit organization that provides scholarships for direct support and services to families affected by Autism.
National Statistics of Children Diagnosed With Autism Spectrum Disorder:
1980:  1 in 5000 children
1990:  1 in1000 children
2000:  1 in 500 children
2007:  1 in 150 children
2010:  1 in 110 Children

We’re finally starting to get in some of the great headpieces and accessories that we ordered for spring! Paris headpieces are known for their beautiful and unique designs.  The accessories are plated with 14 karat gold, while glass pearlized beads and Swarovski crystals are used to create a beautiful and long-lasting accessory.  They are the perfect addition to a gorgeous gown!

The days of wearing plain white shoes on your wedding day are long gone.  These days brides are going a more non-traditional route when choosing what to wear on their feet.  Take Carrie from the Sex and the City movie for example, she chose a pair of cobalt blue Manolo Blahniks while tying the knot (pictured).  Within the last year we’ve had a countless number of brides come into the salon telling us that they too intended to wear a non-traditional shoe on their wedding day.  And why shouldn’t they? It is your day after all!  If you’re intending to shell out the money on a pair of heels anyways, make it something you at least have the option to wear again.  So I say go ahead ladies, embrace the non-traditional and go for something fun!

Yes the Jegging, the hybrid word of jeans and leggings.  They’re an even skinnier skinny jean made out of stretch fabric so you’re able to move comfortably without a lot of restriction.  They’re huge this season on and off the runway and for a good reason.  I just purchased my first pair of Seven Jeggings at Nordstrom and was really skeptical about all the hype surrounding them.  Turns out that they’re actually really comfortable and not to mention extremely versatile.  I’m able to wear them like jeans paired with a simple top without having to cover up my backside like I would with leggings, but I’m also able to wear them under a dress or long flowy top.  You can dress them up by wearing them with a cute pair or heels or dress boots, or dress them down with a pair of flats or riding boots.  If you’re self-conscious about the way you might look in them, no need to worry because they actually seem to shape and lift your backside in an unexpected but flattering way. So in short, if you’re on the fence about this new trend, I highly recommend you add the “Jegging” to your wardrobe this Spring.
